Introduction

The teacher displays a book and asks:

  • What is this?

  • Who likes storybooks?

  • What do we do with books?

Presentation

Step 1: Meaning of Reading

Reading is looking at words in a book and saying them correctly.

Step 2: Importance of Reading

Reading helps us:

  • Learn new things.

  • Read stories.

  • Do well in school.

Step 3: How to Hold a Book

  • Hold the book upright.

  • Open the book carefully.

  • Read from left to right.

Step 4: Reading Practice

Teacher shows:
A – Apple
B – Ball
C – Cat

Pupils repeat after the teacher.

Evaluation Questions

  1. What is reading?

  2. What do we use for reading?

  3. How do we hold a book?

  4. Say A, B, and C.

Conclusion

Teacher revises the lesson and encourages pupils to read books every day.
